You Know How I Know You're Gay?
At its best, Asia was the majestic, arena-sized tonic to the
increasingly goofy end of the new wave movement, a last gasp
from the near dormant volcano called prog rock. That said,
it's impossible to roll down the car windows and crank "Only
Time Will Tell," "Don't Cry," or "The Smile Has Left Your
Eyes" without attracting the furrowed eyebrows and sarcastic
air drumming of the general public. Geffen's The Definitive
Collection features all of the aforementioned hits, as well
as "Heat of the Moment," "Go," "Sole Survivor," and "Voice of
America," making it a fine choice for the average fan, but
those looking to dig deeper into the void should search out
the peerless two-disc Gold collection, which has everything
but a miniature Paiste Gong.
Note: We consider ourselves at MP3 to be ahead of
the game when it comes to audio quality. We prefer
to rip to LAME 3.97b because it yields better sound
quality at a more efficient bitrate. However, the
scene is not yet prepared for 3.97b, as pzs-ng/glftpd
have not yet been updated to detect the presets in
this new encoder. In addition to this, some groups
have been taking advantage of using new LAME versions
or presets and have been sound shaping and altering
bitrates to make re-encoded webrips appear as legit
releases. As such, we have decided to revert to an
outdated version of LAME until the scene is prepared
for an update.
