*Vinyl strictly limited to 500 copies - Includes a poster signed by David
Shrigley!!!* And now for something completely differentà IÆll assume that
British readers will know who David Shrigley is already, I mean û youÆve all
read the Guardian right? What do you mean you only buy Heat magazine? Crikey
then you shouldnÆt be looking on here for your latest excursion into the
world of vaguely abstract and occasionally surprising music should you. Well
Mr. Shrigley is an artist, and contributes his ever effervescent doodles to
the Guardian every Saturday giving the left-leaning and often hard going
paper something other than the possible assassination of George W. Bush to
actually excite itÆs readers. HeÆs also made a video for Blur believe it or
not and very good it is too, but IÆm not here to talk about that, this time
heÆs kicked the drawings out of the window and come up with a rather
attractive sixteen track album of electronic tinkering and spoken word. ItÆs
odd, of course it is, you wouldnÆt expect anything less, but thankfully it
never breaches the line into æzanyÆ territory. The album through itÆs dark,
occasionally magical soundscapes and always confusing monologues paints a
picture of slightly comical abstraction, and in amongst the genuine and
purposeful artistic nature itÆs actually bloody lovely to listen to. Ranging
from glacial electronics to drum machine and guitar ramblings with time for
some Wolf Eyes style noise excursions in the middle this is as varied as it
is ambitious and Shrigley has put together something which perfectly mirrors
his work as a visual artist. A fantastically odd treat for the ears...
