│ For their third full length, the Hu Vibrational crew (headed by │
│ Carlos Nino aka Ammon Contact) goes even further into the │
│ spiritual afro- avant- jazz- dance- minimal thing that they │
│ presented on the first two Boonghee Music records. If you │
│ haven't checked them out yet, they sound like one of those │
│ meditative afro-inspired jazz albums from Strata, using │
│ mysterious percussive instruments with hints of modernity from │
│ producer Carlos Nino. It's a refreshing change of pace, and you │
│ feel like you've stumbled upon some unknown album produced out │
│ on the black commune, tapped into somebody else's trip or │
│ discovered your new relaxation medication. The sound revolves │
│ around the various percussive elements of longtime drummers │
│ Adam Rudolph and Hamid Drake. They've been at it since the │
│ mid-70s and combined credits include work with Bennie Maupin, │
│ Bill Laswell, Don Cherry, Lester Bowie, etc. It's a circular, │
│ trancelike music that all kind of melts into one long song, │
│ exactly the way you would imagine it to sound live. These are │
│ the kind of songs that you aren't going to able to completely │
│ understand with a minute and thirty second sound clip, but │
│ check some of the more uptempo numbers like "Amma(1)" and │
│ "Namu(2)." Yusef Lateef makes an appearance on the last track, │
│ "In The Field(3)," furthering that early 70s underground jazz │
│ feel. "Born From The Sea(4)" sounds the most modern- and │
│ remixable- and the drum patterns on "Ninety Six Red Lotus │
│ Blossoms(5)" are not to be effed with. 14 tracks total. │
│ │
│ Hu Vibrational's new album mixes deep percussive African │
│ rhythms and Afro- Jazz with elements of hip-hop and electronica │
│ recorded in Los Angeles, California. This is the second album │
│ by Hu Vibrational to be released on Soul Jazz Records and for │
│ those of you bought the first release this will not disappoint! │
│ Produced by West Coast left-field hip-hop/electronic/jazz │
│ artist Carlos Nino A/K/A Ammon Contact, the album features Adam │
│ Rudolph, Hamid Drake and Brahim Fribgane as well as special │
│ guest and deep jazz legend Yusef Lateef. │
│ Adam Rudolph and Hamid Drake have between them played and │
│ recorded with Pharoah Sanders, Herbie Hancock, Bill Laswell, │
│ Jah Wobble, Don Cherry and many more. │
│ With previous releases on Soul Jazz Records (Beautiful) and │
│ Scott HerenÆs (Prefuse 73) Eastern developments label, Hu │
│ VibrationalÆs deep spiritual music draws on the links between │
│ Africa, Jazz music and avant-garde Hip-Hop. │
│ Adam Rudolph co-founded the Mandingo Griot Society and has been │
│ working together for over recent years as musical partner to │
│ the great Yusef Lateef. He also runs the Go:Organic Orchestra a │
│ 22 piece percussion group. │
│ Carlos Nino A/K/A Ammon Contact has had releases on Ninja, Soul │
│ Jazz Records, Eastern Development and Plug Research. As well as │
│ being an integral part of Hu Vibrational he has also produced │
│ Dwight Trible and The Life Force Trio, Build An Ark and the │
│ Go;Organic Orchestra. │
