Susumu Yokota Mix Featuring Four Tet, The Chap, Red Snapper and
Cursor Miner* Essentially doing for Lo Recordings what he did for
his old label Leaf a few years back, 'Lo Compilation' sees Susumu
Yokota taking a cross section of the imprint's catalogue and
infusing it with a sense of calm which transforms the material into
a blossom scented journey full of charming adjuncts and expansive
views. Clocking up 45 tracks over the space of two CDs, 'Lo
Compilation' often doesn't dwell on a given track for too long -
yet where this could signal a bitty expansive of sounds and ideas,
Yokota weaves the disparate elements together to form a fluid and
inviting whole. Opening through the weird-glam-pop of The Chap,
Yokota then goes on to introduce some of his oeuvre before rubbing
it up against the likes of Luke Vibert and Toob to create texture
and aural sparks. From here CD1 rattles along, with appearances
from the likes of Alexandroid, Red Snapper, KoW, Europa 51 and
Rothko - with Yokota suceeding in having you forget that you're
listening to a label-restricted compilation and instead giving the
impression that everything included was cherry-picked from his
entire collection. Closing disc one with a gold run of his own
material, disc two opens with a more agitated feel - as Hairy
Butter, Cursor Miner and The Chap jostle for supremacy. Including a
couple of exclusive Yokota cuts sprinkled amongst the mix, the
album closes with Four Tet and Rothko's delicious 'Rivers Become
Oceans' hook-up - proving that the man Susumu is as talented as he

The first CD (black) features mainly vocal tracks, from The Chap's
beguiling "Auto Where To" with its space age vocal harmonies, to
the avant folk sound of Yokota's own "Your Shining Darkness",
taking in the gorgeous cinematic ambience of Europa 51, the torch
song vibes of ToobÆs "Here Enuff", the electro ballad "Errors In My
Mind" by Cursor Miner, and Alexandroid's superb "Edinorog", still
finding time along the way for Luke Vibert's "Blasted Wook", and
tracks by King Of Woolworths, Red Snapper, Theodore, Rothko and
Motohiro Nakashima.
The second CD (red) is a very different beast focusing more on Lo's
uptempo electronic output. Starting with the previously unreleased
acid mix of Hairy Butter's "Lock Don" by Georges Vert, before
diving into the deep electro vibes of Cursor Miner's "This Is
Electro", it also features the heavy, heavy beats of Mr G "Locked
in Dub", the future disco of Milky Globe, and the minimal space
groove of Pier Bucci. There are also unreleased tracks by Yokota
himself as well as tracks from Four Tet, Jackson, Jean Jacques
Perrey and Luke Vibert, Red Snapper and The Chap.
Originally available only in Japan via Susumu Yokota's own Skintone
label, Lo was so knocked out by this unique take on their back
catalogue that they decided to give it a worldwide release. Mixed
in Yokota's unique free-flowing style and featuring exclusive
tracks by Yokota and others, this album is sure to find favor with
Yokota and Lo fans alike.
