│ After two EPs on Warp, Home Video emerge on Brooklyn's Defend │
│ label. "Penguin(1)" has a feelgood emo-rock slash electronica │
│ feel, dude's voice is pretty melodic and relaxing (note to │
│ self: check out the full length). On the flip, the song gets │
│ the eleven minute overhaul by DFA's Tim Goldsworthy(2). │
│ Predictably, Goldsworthy puts his magic touch on the mix, │
│ opting for the deep, slowly developing theme. You immediately │
│ associate instant gratification new disco with DFA, but tracks │
│ like this remind you how really talented they really are. Also │
│ includes the Radiohead-sounding "The Headstart." │
│ │
│ A remix 12" that sees the DFA's Tim Goldsworthy grabbed for │
│ some slice+dice duty, 'Penguin' is taken from the Home Video's │
│ new LP and sees their electronic indie (think Postal Service) │
│ given a nice new shine by the LCD peeps. Made to sweat a little │
│ more than the original, the DFA mix is backed by 'The │
│ Headstart' - wherein things turn a little UNKLE for my liking - │
│ before the title track recovers the day with glittering │
│ solipsism. Video nasty! │
