The Model has already released great electronic music on labels such
as International DJ Gigolos, Traum Schallplatten, Magnetic Disorder
and Space Factory and here for his first release on Underl_ne he
shows just why his releases are held in such high esteem.
Back in the summer now long gone Underl_ine released a 12" - UND007
Behind the Atoms EP by Matt John which received solid support across
the board. DJ Hell charted the title track and The Model picked up
the scent. A friend and colleague of Hell in the electro scene, he
was stunned by Matt's record and got in touch and sent them his
album, The Foundation. Inspired solely by the writings of Isaac
Asimov, this material may be a departure for Underl_ne in terms of a
genre, but they readily embraced the sound. The five tracks on show
here act as a prelude to The Model's forthcoming "The Foundation"
album.
Isaac Asimov's Foundation is a series of books and perhaps the most
mind-expanding sci-fi work of all time. The books are a passage to a
vast universe, another life, with its own rules and thinking. It is
intriguing even enthralling and so alive in its galaxy-wide span of
events that it will resonate in your dreams.
The Model is an individual whose mind is partially dominated by
robots, an all-consuming awareness of the immense pool of
possibilities our world can randomly provide. He first read the
series when just 14 years old, coming back to it 13 years later with
a greater lust for the unique dramatics the Foundation provides. What
it had spawned in his young mind years ago turned out to be a sure
fire combination and the potent inspiration, driving him to deliver
his first soundtrack to accompany the books. Lurking somewhere
between minimal, deep, shuffled, electro-infused and
highly-conceptual, highly dramatic techno is a sound describing his
vision of the Foundation universe. From raw, analogue-like bass
lines, to subtle house grooves and deep fascinating hypnotic synths,
to glitchy microhouse, this music is special, as is its source of
inspiration.
