release notes
............,
Firstly, thanks to FNT for their release on 2006-10-08. It is a real
pleasure to read an NFO and see that the ripper genuinely cares for
the music they're releasing. I generally hate propers, but
unfortunately there were a few problems with the FNT release. These
are:
Vinyl skip at 5:46 on the first track.
Clipping distortion on both tracks (recorded slightly too loud)
As such, I believe the proper is warrented. I've also provided scans
of this excellent release, just to make things a little more
complete. This is a really beautiful record, and also very limited.
Chances are that by the time you're reading this, most if not all
copies will have already been sold. With that said, enjoy!
-----
You probably know by now we've got more than just a soft spot for
good quality post-rock - yes we're Mogwai fetishists and we're not
afraid to show it, so when Mono appeared on the map a few years ago
we were all there, rabid to see where exactly Japan's instrumental
rock troubadours would end up - and it's hardly a surprise to see
them now welcomed into the loving arms of filmmaker Cameron Crowe.
Yep the same guy that brought you Vanilla Sky and, erm, Elizabethtown
runs a label, and with his unashamed love of Sigur Ros confirmed, it
seems he's moving farther a field by taking Mono into the fray. It's
a darned good move too as the band turn in one of their finest tracks
yet - the utterly crushing ten-minute long 'Memorie Del Futuro', a
track that sounds something like as if Michael Nyman was to suddenly
write post rock. Those soaring strings, those wailing guitars - it's
emotional and it's dramatic but thankfully it doesn't layer it on and
opt for the everlasting crescendo in the same way as our Icelandic
friends. The key is subtlety, which is only too often lost in the
land of post-rock, but Mono here manage it in a way they've never
really quite done before, and as the distorted guitars and gorgeous
violins fade out you are left with a gaping hole in your heart. Of
course this is disgracefully limited and you're likely never to see
it pop up again so you'd better act fast.

information and greetings
........................,
MAEM is dedicated to the promotion of interesting electronic music, old
and new. Unlike most groups, we will not target individual sub-genres
within the electronic field. Quite simply, if we like the sound, we will
release it. This includes (but is by no means limited to) : techno, idm,
italo disco, electro, acid, ambient, downtempo, and house.
MAEM has years of ripping experience, and we will ensure we meet or
exceed the quality which is expected within the scene.
Finally, MAEM genuinely cares about the music we release. It may seem
somewhat cliche, but we buy ALL of the records we release, and if you
enjoy this mp3 sample, then do the right thing and buy a copy for
yourself. Good artists and record labels deserve your support!
Greetings to BEX, BOSS, BCC, CMC, DH, Disc0, DPS, EMP, FWYH, I8, JUST,
KW, PSYCZ, SOUP, SOUR, TR, UKI, and all MAEM affiliate sites. Thank you!
