Liv Mueller (a.k.a Liv Lovely) fronted her band "The Lovelies" for over 9 years.
Formed in the nineties in Austin TX, the band played clubs like The Electric
Lounge & The Continental Club .Eventually moving the band to the Midwest proved
fruitful for Liv and The Lovelies, here they were able to tour the Midwest and
gain popularity among audiences in Chicago, Minneapolis Milwaukee, St. Louis ,
Madison(the list goes on), as well as making regular trips back to Austin TX,
where they could play and visit old friends.
Although the band achieved most of its success towards the end of its existence,
it wasn't enough to hold the band together, and in winter of 2004, The Lovelies
split due to personal differences.
Creatively it proved to be what Liv needed to write the album of her career thus
far...Spending long hours into the early morning, she demo-ed 14 songs on an
eight track that she purchased secondhand, recording enough for a new albums
worth. Upon completion, the demos were given to musical colleague and friend
Grant Curry, who heads up the production team "Verdugo City Madmen"(also a
member of the band "Pleasure Club"). After hearing the demos, Grant decided that
this was a project he wanted to record & produce. In late spring/early summer,
Liv traveled to New Orleans & the two of them lived in a beautiful cedar
cabin/recording studio together for nearly a month. The lush and at times
haunting Louisiana scenery proved to be an excellent source of inspiration for
The Dark Horse Project record. Whether you are a "Lovelies" fan, or a fan of
excellent music, one cannot debate the fact that this is Liv's most stunning
effort yet. The album is timeless and filled with passion; it allows the
listener to hear Liv's voice in an entirely new way
