Schematic is a label thatÆs been around for a while now, responsible
for releasing some of the weirdest and most inspired, complex electronic
records of the decade. This ace collection finds twenty artists on offer
paying their respects to the magnificently insane Otto Von Schirach,
all of course in their own impenetrable style. WeÆve got Phoenecia doing
what they do best with a piece of glitch-heavy electroid funk,
Venetian Snares offering up the remains of SchirachÆs beat play in his
token style, Soft Pink Truth doing some slinky camp pop, Din-ST with a
leaden chunk of hard-hitting electronic hiphop, Jamie Lidell with some
vocal heavy chopped up r+b. Really thereÆs a hell of a lot of ground
covered here, and surprisingly itÆs a pretty darn intense and intriguing
listen û bringing to mind the best bits of the choppy electronica scene
rather than the worst. If you fancy a little bit of irreverent insanity and
angst, I donÆt think you could do much better than this collection.
