We knew that luminaries Ariel Engle and Steve
Durand had been cooking something steamy and sweet
up in that country house they kept taking off to,
and here it finally is. The self-described king and
queen of "couplecore" (a coined term that is either
totally endearing, tear-your-hair-out grating, or
both) have made a love record that is the
dictionary definition of dreamy. Both Engle and
Durand (formerly of Tinker) lull us with their
crooned stream-of-consciousness daydreams about
what it means to stay together, be apart and mostly
just be. These are some mixed-up melodies, man -
Durand's acoustic instrumentation is deftly
electrified into a pro-sounding record. Even more
impressive when you realize the duo did it all
themselves.
