The rough songs of Nathalie Natiembe are
reunionnaises point of the hair until the end of
the nails. Possessionnaise of adoption after a
youth passed in the streets of the center of
St-Denis, Nathalie Natiembe remembers to have
always sung.
"Dopui dann vant' my monmon!" In 1998, after some
rebellious and binary gallops of test, it launches
out body and heart in the writing. Nathalie
NatiembΘ works the creole language with the body.
Words, it draws from the strong emotions by going
up some the wire. This exercise A brought back
besides to its Mozambicaine source in March 2001
within the framework of an outstanding round on the
personal level.
When, in Catembe in the south of the country, it
crosses considerable homonyms, the reunionnaise is
discovered a family extended to the grounds of
Africa. With the Sanker album, Nathalie Natiembe
delivers her vision of it could become this
music... the maloya. Surrounded by musicians of the
Indian Ocean (Reunion, Mauritius and Madagascar),
it confronts the maloya and opens it at new
horizons... Until finding the heart of it.

Ne lui parlez pas d'un maloya fige, d'une ile de la
Reunion aux frontieres hermetiques ou de vie sans
metissage, Nathalie Natiembe est bien vivante et
elle le revendique.
Apparue sur la scene internationale en 1997, la
chanteuse est l'une des representantes les plus
inspirees de son ile. Des rues de St-Denis au
Mozambique en passant par les festivals europeens,
elle offre au public, une vision originale de sa
musique. Un maloya trempe dans la chanson
francaise, qui retrouve ses couleurs africaines ou
qui se melange aux autres cultures de l'Ocean
Indien.
Je suis faite pour des percussions que l'on ne
frappe pas mais que l'on secoue , souligne-t-elle
en expliquant la symbolique du triangle qui servait
a rappeler les esclaves des champs et qui est
aujourd'hui couramment utilise dans les groupes
reunionnais.
Son premier album, sorti en 2001, lui a permis de
partir en tournee, jusqu'au Mozambique ou elle a
retrouve ses racines. Le second Sanker, sorti en
2005, impregne de ce retour aux sources s'ouvre
toujours plus aux autres cultures. La force de
Nathalie Natiembe tient dans ses textes, veritables
poemes de la vie quotidienne ou se melent ses
influences : reggae, blues, Edith Piaf ou Charles
Trenet, sans oublier ses maitres Danyel Waro et
Alain Peters.
