Wibutee is now in the process of releasing their fourth studio
album, entitled "Sweet Mental", internationally. The album is
already out in Norway, Canada, Benelux, Australia and Japan where
it has received fantastic reviews! Rest of Europe and the US to
follow shortly. Sweet Mental is co-produced by Mike Hartung (A-Ha,
Jaga Jazzist and JR Ewing). Hartung, and the bands new bass and
guitar player Tor Egil Kreken, have made a tremendous creative
impact on the whole process. The result is a more distinct and
focused album which is WibuteeÆs best to date. The shining Anja
Garbarek also features on vocals on the beautiful last track of the
album. You will hear the sounds of Frank Zappa and Tortoise, via
Plaid and Massive Attack to Sufjan Stevens, MEW og Rufus
Wainwright! A respected English journalist even hailed Wibutee as
an Avant Basement Jaxx, wheras The Ottawa Express enthusiastically
named them as Alt. JazzÆs Sonic youth after their furiously
jetlagged (They landed in Montreal 5 hours prior to the show in
Ottawa) performance in Ottawa this summer.
Wibutee have toured extensively the last couple of years, having
released their three previos albums on the Norwegians success label
Jazzland Recordings/universal. You will find a complete list on
their website. Wibutee have performed all over the planet from
Tokyo and Istanbul, to Vancouver, Montreal and New York! Since the
release of their last album "Playmachine" Wibutee have played more
than 50 gigs. The bands very last gigs, promoting the new album
ôSweet Mentalö have made it evident that they are a more
ôin-your-faceö and funky live experience than ever and truly
displayed the bandÆs newfound energy and charisma. WibuteeÆs gigs
now include NorwayÆs top sound and light designers which will û in
combination with a band at the peak of their form - ensure a
fantastic live setting.
