One of the first rappers to tell explicit stories of ██
violence and poverty in the ghetto, Schoolly D helped create ██
and develop the style that has since become known as gangsta ██
rap. ██
██
Born and raised in Philadelphia, D released his self-titled ██
debut album on the same label as high school friend The ██
Fresh Prince in 1986. Adopting a more hardcore approach to ██
his next albums (Saturday Night and Smoke Some Kill) the ██
rapper began to draw serious fire from politicians and ██
parent groups for his unflinching tales of inner-city life. ██
██
Unfortunately, Schoolly D's popularity began to wane in the ██
early '90s. In recent years D has gotten involved in techno ██
music. ██
