Release Notes:
Dominic Suter (voc, guit, key) and Raphael
Rogenmoser (bs, voc) founded Camp in 2003 while
studying in Zurich. It took Dominic some time to
find his very own sound. He has been sharing his
enthusiasm for 80ies synthesizer bands in various
projects in Zurich since 1996. Raphael Rogenmoser
was singing and playing bass in several indie-rock
bands in Lucerne before founding Camp. Right from
day one, their shared love of alternative rock
music and ZurichÆs clubbing scene proved a binding
force. Two weeks prior to their first gig in early
2004, CampÆs original drummer got cold feet. He was
replaced by Tosho Yakkatokuo and his infamous
ôYakkatokuo-Shuffleö - a real godsend. He liked it
so much that he became a permanent member of the
band. Together, they form a trio which is still
going to rock many a Swiss venue.
ôTo talk about Camp is therefore to betray itö. We
will, however, do just that. The band name and said
quote are taken from an essay by Susan Sontag.
Analogous to the art term, CampÆs sound is very
difficult to pigeonhole. The band pay homage, in
hidden and evident ways, to New York and Britain.
There are electronic beats, bass and synthesizer
lines underlying the partly gentle, partly dirty
guitar riffs. Not only does this correspond to the
prevalent post-rock labelling, it also, in its
gloomy, wave-like manner, bears reference to early
Cure or New Order. Their home town, Zurich, serves
the band as incessant fertile ground for their
disco qualities. Hence, on stage, Camp merge
traditional rock instrumentation with electronics.
The lyrics are surrealistic trash. Camp donÆt
recount, they talk in order to leave it all unsaid.
In 2005 Camp released their first album
ôIconographyö. The Album received a good feedback
in the press and in the radio. Camp are Swiss Top
in March on the national Radiostation DRS3,
A-rotation on Couleur 3, "Iconography" was the "CD
of the week" 47 on Kanal K and the "CD of the week"
51 from radio 3Fach. The Song "My heart is breaking
down" was under the 5 nominated for best Swiss Song
2005 on SOUNDS! from DRS3. Camp came into the
chrome rotation of engine of FM in Berlin without
pomotion and selling in Germany. Camp played this
summer among other things at the Blueballs Festival
in Lucerne, at the Winterthurer Musikfestwochen, at
the Roentgenplatzfest in Zurich and as Support Act
for The Rapture at Mascotte.
The Band will release their second Album "Talking
Cureô on november 9th 2006. ôTalking Cureö,
multi-faceted and produced autonomously, boasts 14
songs and comprises dance rock, suitable for
dancing and releasing all your pent-up energy, as
well as more down-beat, melancholic tracks. The CD
contains also the Video-Clip ôThe Truth About Artô,
directed by Francois Chalet.
