DEBUT SOLO ALBUM
Helium Balloon Illusions is my first solo outing after performing
professionally for the best part of a decade (Zenzile being the main band
with whom I have toured and recorded). With the help of the Zenzile
clan, nuclear and extended, this work was a labor of love from the
beginning to end. The music reflects the fusion of my artistic practice
as it refuses to sit well in any niche yet known, and the lyricsà well I
wrote this stuff over the 2 years I spent working on the album, and has
everything to do with a personal journey as well as political concerns.
Numbers like Crash with its heavy bass line and crunchy lyrics expose the
possibility of a world imploding. While the moody Travel Bag Blues (more
like electro blues for real) takes you with me during those lonely days on
the road. Shanti- Lift, has a dubby feel with hip hop spine, and the
Be/at is my homage to the Last Poets. I could go on and on, but would
