Belgian trumpeter Bert Joris is followed by the sonorous bass sound of Hein Van
de Geyn and the clear voice of Paulien van Schaik. The trio is complete.It is
the introduction to an album full of jewels. And those jewels are a repertoire
of classic standards such as Moonlight in Vermont, The Man I Love, Imagination
and many other beautiful songs. Here we hear chamber music of the highest
caliber and in a pure jazz idiom.
Did Hein and Paulien touch on "the naked truth" with their first CD "Tenderly",
as Hein said himself; with Bert Joris a perfect harmonious unity emerges,
enhanced by the beautiful melodic lines that Paulien sings against the trumpet
melodies. The great quality of Paulien is her deep respect for the way the
melodies have been written by their composers. Lyrics and music as equals,
interpreted by three passionate musicians.
