Release Notes:

Verve Remixed 1 to 3, Impulsive! Reworked, Blue
Note Remixed, ... The recipe's simple: let some hip
cats go crazy on an impressive catalogue. But
what's the result? An honest hommage or easy money
for the label as well as the artist? It's a thin
line and remix lp's are rarely a success from start
to finish. Maybe because the concept of a remix lp,
or in fact a remix in general, is so simple?

But then again ... sometimes it does work. When
truly talented people express their respect and
love for the old jazz classics, there is a good
chance for magic. All of the mentioned remix lps
had their moments and even got some awesome tunes.
Some remix lp's even kick ass as a whole, just
think of the Sun Ra Dedication project by Kindred
Spirits. And now there's Timeless Intepretations,
presented to us via Dopeness Galore. It probably
isn't a coincidence these last two projects are
released by a small independent label, with an ear
for good contemporary music and driven by
passionate people.

In the summer of 2005, Dopeness Galore hooked up
with the Dutch jazz label Timeless, that holds a
catalogue consisting of more than 700 titles of the
most highly anticipated jazz artists of our time,
from which only a few are revealed on this album.
Much like Timeless, the artists on this record are
no newcomers in the music game. All of them are
gifted producers whose own productions already
proved they're clearly influenced by timeless jazz.
And that's probably what makes the difference; no
names here that raise an eyebrow, but fine
contemporary producers who were given the freedom
to create a remix as free and versatile as the word
interpretation can be interpreted.

Dopeness Galore already released two singles of
remixes which are also included on this cd and if
you've heard those you know it's about quality. If
ever there was a hiphop beat you don't want to end,
it's I.N.T.'s 8-minute jazz and beats excursion
into Chet Baker's world, making this my personal
favourite. 'High Priestess' by Mark De Clive-Lowe
and Bembe Segue as The Politik, is a track that can
compete with the best of Mark's own work. Dopeness
Galore's own Wouda Boogie jams away with Johnny
Griffin creating his own deep pumpwork.
Maybe these previously released tracks are the
highlights on this lp, but it's definitely a close
call. There's more great music with Domu doing a
Fender Rhodes-drenched broken beat rework of
'Nerada' with somewhat of an old skool jungle vibe;
the best of his recent reworks. Other uptempo
tracks are John Arnold's and Alex Attias' reworks,
with Alex going back to his earlier Mustang period,
with a minimal techno take on Art Blakey's Kenji's
Walk. More down tempo cuts come from Elsas, Jacob
Malik Ladder (aka Kid Sublime), Kev Brown and Rich
Medina. Dopeness!
