WHEN ON FIRE
Producing everything herself, Christine has created music that is a
dichotomous blend of dreamy sounds and raw distortion, reverb, bass and noise
expressed through clever, uninhibited lyrics. It's sensual, dark, rough and
eerie, all at once. The cinematic feeling creates images in the listeners'
mind. Owman guides you with a strong will and determination, almost
hypnotising you to follow her into a lonely, dark, haunting path heading
towards something mystical, a bit frightening but oh so beautiful. A place
where contrasts and contradictions, reality and dreams intertwine.
When On Fire - was released on Glitterhouse Records, featuring Mark Lanegan
(Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age, Gutter Twins), SoKo, Karolina
Engdahl (Vσnna Inget, True Moon) and Erika RosΘn (Swim) with a B-side
collaboration with Neil Keener of Wovenhand.
HISTORY
Christine's passion for music started at an early age. She sang before she
could talk, wrote music before she could spell and started playing the cello
at the age of five. Learning to play instrument after instrument she started
her own record label after graduating high school. Owman released her own and
other bands' music until she signed with Glitterhouse in 2013. Her first
release on Glitterhouse was Little Beast which included two songs featuring
Mark Lanegan. Since then - apart from writing music to theatre pieces,
recording with other bands and touring with SoKo, Wovenhand and Vσnna Inget -
Owman has been touring the world with her album.
LIVE
Christine Owman's full band consists of Magnus Sveningsson of The Cardigans
on the bass, AndrΘas Almqvist of Vσnna Inget on the drums, Robert Wegner on
the guitar and herself on the cello, guitar and vocals. She combines a warm
and empowering stage presence, sincerity and musical skill with an almost
unhuman, creature-like live performance that invites you to her dreams,
nightmares and thoughts which can be both dreamy, dark and political, but
inspiring and captivating all the same. To give a wider perspective of her
music and creative mind Owman also makes movie projections for all her songs
with inspiration from the 1920s burlesque, stunt and art films.
INSPIRATION
Owman's musical inspiration ranges over 4 decades and includes influences
from post rock, psychedelic rock, grunge rock, classical music, punk and new
wave. The lyrics are tales from dreams, fears, nightmares and interpretations
of darkness but with an empowering strength that conveys hope and almost
makes you feel safe in the dark underground she guids you through. Stories
about unconscious thoughts surfacing, observations of surroundings in times
where mental illness and suicide rates are rising like never before. Where
the world is on fleeing foot and countries are closing their borders and
turning their backs on people in need.
COLLABORATIONS
Christine Owman has worked, toured and/or opened for a number of bands and
artists including Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), Mark Lanegan, SoKo, Wovenhand,
Chelsea Wolfe, Vσnna Inget and members of The Cardigans. She likes to
collaborate over creative boarders and writes music for theatre and film as
well.

Die skandinavische Musikerin Christine Owman als umtriebig zu bezeichnen, ist
noch untertrieben. Von der Singenden SΣge bis zum Bass beherrscht die 1981
Geborene eine derartige Anzahl an Instrumenten, dass man damit ein Orchester
ausstatten k"nnte. Ach ja, als Videokⁿnstlerin und Komponistin fⁿrs Theater
arbeitet die Schwedin auch noch, trotzdem findet sich Zeit, mit der
Psychedelik-Rock-Band Dundun auf Tour zu gehen. Oder die Wege von Black
Mountain, Wovenhand, Mark Lanegan, Robert Plant, Soko sowie der Cardigans zu
kreuzen und noch ein Label, Revolving Records, zu grⁿnden. Nur fⁿr die eigene
Karriere rΣumte die Frau mit einer Lust auf 20er-Jahre-Outfits und einer
Harley in der Garage nicht den Platz ein, der n"tig wΣre, um sie richtig
voranzutreiben.
Das vierte Album WHEN ON FIRE k"nnte endlich die Wende einleiten, denn
diesmal hinterlΣsst Owman einen weitaus fokussierten Eindruck als noch auf
den VorgΣngern, die sie teilweise komplett allein einspielte, produzierte und
auch noch deren Artwork gestaltete. HΣtten wir noch die spΣten 80er-Jahre,
dann wΣre sie aufgrund der SoundΣsthetik ihrer schwebenden und
atmosphΣrischen Songs wohl auf 4AD neben Bands wie den Cocteau Twins
gelandet. Aber im dunklen und angerauten GebΣlk des verhallten Dream Pop mit
seinen Shoegazing-Zitaten, kammermusikalischen Elementen, Folk-Passagen,
Post-Rock und Klangeffekten knirscht es doch bisweilen und deswegen finden
die Parallelen zu den Cocteau Twins schnell ihr Ende.
WHEN ON FIRE ist ein vertrΣumtes Album mit einem schattigen Blick auf die
Welt. Ein Album, das von einem Stⁿck in das nΣchste gleitet, nicht
gemΣchlich, aber doch ohne Hektik und Brⁿche. Selbst, wenn sich GΣste wie
Mark Lanegan oder Soko bemerkbar machen, digitale Beats den stoischen
Rhythmus vorgeben, tun sich nicht wirklich Spalten auf. Die Stimmung, die die
Multiinstrumentalistin mit der verhuschten Stimme erzeugt, liegt schwer auf

Christine Owman's Leidenschaft fⁿr Musik begann schon im frⁿhen Kindesalter.
Sie sang bevor sie sprechen konnte, komponierte noch bevor sie schreiben
konnte und begann bereits im Alter von 5 Jahren das Cello zu spielen. Ihre
musikalischen Einflⁿsse sind zahlreich, reichen von Post-Rock,
Psychedelic-Rock, Grunge, Punk und New Wave bis hin zu Klassischer Musik.
Direkt nach der High School grⁿndete Christine ihr eigenes Plattenlabel, um
ihre eigene Musik und die ihrer Freunde zu ver"ffentlichen, bis sie 2013 bei
Glitterhouse Records unterschrieb. Im selben Jahr ver"ffentlichte die äQueen
of the Underground" ihr zweites Album äLittle Beast" und tourte weltweit u.a.

Swedish musician and composer, born September 29, 1981.
She is a trained cellist and vocalist and in addition plays guitar, bass,
piano, ukulele and saw. As a composer and musician, she has also worked in
the theater where she wrote and performed music in the Swedish performances
Exit Presence with the actress Pia "rjansdotter and R"da Rum, Prost and
Cleveland by Teater Mutation. In the USA, Owman has collaborated with the
Canadian actress and screenwriter Melanie Jones in the project Endure, which
Owman composed and played the music for.
Owman has, among other things, recorded and / or toured with Robert Plant,
Woven Hand, Mark Lanegan, Soko, Vσnna Inget, Golden Kanine and Andi Almqvist.
She has toured all over the world with her live concept where she plays
cello, saw and guitar accompanied by video projections from the beginning of
the last century. With her on stage are Magnus Sveningsson from The Cardigans
and AndrΘas Almqvist from Vσnna Inget.
The development of video art led to Owman collaborating with Pia "rjansdotter
in 2011 and made video art for her performance The White in White in Malm" in
2012. In 2013, Andi Almqvist released the album Warsaw Holiday where Owman is
a musician and producer on two of the songs. On his own album Little Beast,
which was released by Glitterhouse Records in January 2013, Owman was visited
by Mark Lanegan.
Owman has written music with children and young people in many different
projects, for example Popkollo, where she has also been a board member and in
Skapande Skolan and Gunga Malm".
