be my bmergency (bme) is a St. Paul based, three-piece independent
rock band, playing all original music which blurs the gaps between
alternative, pop, punk, emo, and classic rock. Our introspective
lyrics are wrapped around catchy guitar melodies that you may find
stuck in your head for days. The seeds for the band were planted
on March 11th, 2004 at Psycho Suzies Motor Lounge in NE
Minneapolis. It was at this notorious venue when singer,
songwriter and guitar hero Marc Schwartzmiller (in a birthday-boy
moment of alcohol soaked inspiration) asked friend Josh Kohn (who
had absolutely no musical experience whatsoever at the time) to be
the bass player in a band he planned to start when he moved to the
Twin Cities later that year.
The dream was realized in August of 2004 when Marc made the move
from Milwaukee to Minneapolis and the bass lessons began. The duo
dubbed themselves Thrift Store Romance, testing several new songs
at multiple sessions of Wednesday open-mic night at the Steakknife
in Dinkytown. Due to the recent deluge of "romance" bands, ie: My
Chemical Romance and Matchbook Romance, the name was scrapped, and
the creative process continued.
However, bme wasn't fully formed until January of 2005, when Chris
Palmer answered a "drummer wanted" ad and was quickly set to work
learning songs, keeping time and rocking new beats. A studio in
the historic Rossmor building was aquired in downtown St. Paul
soon after, and has ever since provided the home base for the
fledgling new band. Musical influences and inspiration have come
to the band from various, diverse sources, including, but not
limited to: The Police, The Promise Ring, and The Pixies.
Apparently we have a fixation for "the P" bands, but we absolutely
draw the line at The Pussycat Dolls.
