Global Underground DestinationsÆ is a collection of tracks taken from last yearÆs
vast array of mix compilations that were released by the Global Boys. These include
excursions from London, Amsterdam, Cape Town and Uruguay, from DJ superstars such
as Darren Emerson, Nick Warren, Dave Seaman and Danny Tenaglia. This amalgamation
of sounds makes for a quite enthralling mix, cleverly sliced by The Forth who are
more commonly known for their productions on Global UndergroundÆs offshoot label
Coded, in particular for æReality DetachedÆ. The overall sound of æGlobal Underground
DestinationsÆ is very deep, hypnotic and has a slight funk twist.
The set kicks off with the gentle melody-laden grooves of Weekend WorldÆs æThe WordÆ.
The minimal rhythm section of this really quite lush progressive house number amplifies
the gentle and smooth flowing melody which acts as the perfect building block of this
beautifully sculptured set. 16BÆs production talents are really quite faultless, his
deep techy house cut æIt DoesnÆt Have To EndÆ engaging the listener in a much deeper
vibe, while KatchaÆs æTouched By GodÆ provides a more twisted funk-edged tech-house
sound. Vegas Soul have really been proving a success story on dancefloors all over the
world, and æJunk FunkÆ gives the set a push in a more heavily-layered direction.
The current club hit æIÆll Call UÆ has been really popular on the more progressive
dancefloors and sets it up for tracks from Neil Himmons, Ian Wilkie and Revolt to
enter the equation. The set draws to a close on a good note, namely being James HoldenÆs
breakthrough track æHorizonsÆ which proved so popular last summer.
