The British musician Cherise Adams-Burnett caused quite a stir in the R&B
community in 2021 with her sensuous and silken neo-soul single ôRemedyö. ThatÆs
down above all to her sometimes delicate, sometimes emphatic, but always highly
emotional singing, in which she combines neo-soul elements with jazz influences
- not unlike genre icons such as Erykah Badu and Jill Scott. However, the
singer-songwriter had already been performing in prestigious events such as the
BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall and at the Love Supreme Jazz Festival before
then û not least thanks to her 2017 debut EP with the band Trope, which
experimented with new arrangements of Stevie Wonder songs and which was released
on the small but uncompromising label Jazz: Refreshed. Cherise recently
contributed to the song ôHear Meö from the 2022 TomorrowÆs Warriors album I Am
Warrior û a collection of tracks recorded live in The Jazz CafΘ in Camden that
brings together seasoned jazz musicians and newly discovered talents. In the
same year, Cherise was also the recipient of the Parliamentary Jazz Award in the
category Jazz Vocalist of the Year.
