Release Notes:
Since their beginning in the fall of Æ05 fans have used quite a set of
adjectives to describe their sound and performances: catchy, showy, moody,
dramatic, danceable as f*ck, exciting, and truly unique. Influences include
Schumann's ethereal Arabesque, Ray Charles' Belief to His Soul, Nirvana's gritty
songwriting, and Jethro TullÆs vocal stylings. Even though three of the five
members are too young to drink at their own shows, Strictly has been working
with a vengeance, handling their own booking and management, and self-releasing
their dΘbut album ôTime With You.ö Strictly has been hard at work building a
loyal grassroots following across New England. In their hometown of Boston, MA,
they sold out the Middle East Downstairs (600 capacity) in advance their last
headline. A tour of the Northeast is planned for this spring.
The band leader and principle song writer, Eli, grew up on classical piano.
With the help of his best friend and schoolmate Alex Duncan, who plays trumpet
in the band, he made the transition into jazz and later his own composition.
Together they founded Strictly in their senior year at Milton Academy. By the
end of the year, Eli (having snuck into Berklee practice rooms to listen to
musicians) had recruited four students to join them: Chris, a virtuoso
guitarist from Salem, NH, Sean and Hector, childhood friend from San Juan on
drums and bass, and Max, a Venezuelan with a great range to harmonize with Alex
on trumpet.
Strictly has shared the stage with acts such as Addison Groove Project and Zox,
rocking out crowds in some of New EnglandÆs best venues incuding Avalon Ballroom
in Boston, HarperÆs Ferry, BillÆs Bar, Higher Ground, Pearl Street Ballroom,
the Palladium in Worcester, LupoÆs, and the Knitting Factory and LionÆs Den in
NYC..
Strictly is currently in the studio working on their follow up to Time With You
(their first full length record). They plan for it to be epic and minor. We
