:: 'Until the Void' is perhaps one of LUVART's best albums. ::
:: What first catches your attention when the first song starts ::
:: is the quality of the production. Heavy, with excellent ::
:: mixing and mastering. But that wouldn't be enough to place ::
:: 'Until the Void' as one of the reference works of these ::
:: miners from Juiz de Fora/MG. ::
:: ::
:: The group's black metal, which I would venture to say has ::
:: also acquired death metal nuances, comes through on this ::
:: album with a feel that immediately takes us back to the ::
:: early 90s, when bands like Samael, Acheron, Varathron, and ::
:: much of the best that Brazilian extreme metal has produced, ::
:: were living through their best phases. LUVART drinks from ::
:: these sources with intelligence and creates compositions ::
:: that aren't just a pile of riffs and bases. There is a ::
:: strong feeling that connects and directs them. ::
:: ::
:: The listener is immediately hit by a killer composition with ::
:: 'A New Darn Rising', the track chosen to open the album. The ::
:: keyboard lines are pure old-time black metal. 'Fall of Man' ::
:: follows and is another song with great ideas. The riffs and ::
:: tempos have a great feeling, as do the keyboards. With two ::
:: opening songs of this calibre, expectations are high as to ::
:: how the whole album will sound. ::
:: ::
:: Another thing I found really cool was the fact that LUVART's ::
:: music contains a lot of the more underground Brazilian metal ::
:: that was made in the old days. So if those bands and demo ::
:: tapes had excellent production, this is what they would ::
:: sound like. Listen to the incredible 'Towards A Splendor ::
:: Lifeless' to understand this. I think the use of keyboards ::
:: is one of the things that most brings that feeling of ::
:: nostalgia for that underground sound of so many years ago. ::
:: ::
:: But there's room to go even further back in time when the ::
:: song 'Blessed Are the Dead' begins. The beginnings of black ::
:: metal materialise here. It's a track that has a touch of old ::
:: Samael and Greek metal at various times. But it has its own ::
:: soul with a lot of weight added to it. It s the best song on ::
:: the album for sure. ::
:: ::
:: When 'Death Has a Plan for All' starts it's impossible not ::
:: to think of 'Rotting' by Sarcofago. There is a similarity in ::
:: the two bases, despite the different execution. But the ::
:: resemblance stops there and as soon as this beginning ::
:: passes, the song takes very different paths. 'Seed and ::
:: Destroy' begins with a completely death metal sound, with a ::
:: riff full of feeling and something that reminded me of the ::
:: early days of Death. ::
:: ::
:: The song that most carries the odour of sulphur from the old ::
:: Minas Gerais scene is 'Curse the Flesh', with a killer riff. ::
:: The last song on the album is 'When Two Worlds Collide', ::
:: which also has a strong death metal atmosphere. The main ::
:: riff is very catchy and the tempo makes it another highlight ::
:: of the album. ::
:: ::
:: LUVART have really released a very good album here and ::
:: unfortunately it will go down as the album that will feature ::
:: the last performance of bassist Necromayhem, who passed away ::
:: months ago during the recording of the album. So 'Until the ::
:: Void' is the final testimony to a line-up that has produced ::
:: some truly respectable work. ::
