Make Mine Music begin 2007 with the release of "Midwinter",
August Stars' sophomore release. Like the debut, it is more
of a mini-album, with its eight tracks running at just under
an hour. Inspired by British winters - isolation, chill air
and frosted landscapes - the music is glacial and cold,
capturing perfectly the mood and atmospheres of the long, dark
winter months. Tape loops, treated bells and synthesizer form
the main part of the sounds, but it is the ability of August
Stars' Sebastien Wright to weave these into evocative
soundscapes where nothing is out of place or overdone, that
makes this music so special.
"Midwinter" will be released in very limited quantities only
through the Make Mine Music website and selected shops, and
will be followed by two more longform EPs, "Drawn Away" and
"The Night Sky" over the next few months.
