New York based alt-Cellist Erik Friedlander and Italian
electronic composer and sound designer Teho Teardo
had already been composing through the standard
trans-atlantic method before they started work on
æGiorni RubatiÆ, but both musicians felt they needed
to take it one step further.

Rubati jumped on a plane and arrived on FriedlanderÆs
doorstep taking with him two bottles of premium quality
red wine and a book of poems of fated Italian director
Pier Paolo Pasolini. Inspired by the poems (and hopefully
the wine) the two musicians worked on a æresponseÆ
as such, which started with FriedlanderÆs cello parts
and ended up in the able hands of Teho Teardo allowing
him to chop and filter the sound, adding some light piano
into the mix for good measure. The result is a beautifully
realised landscape of noise û an acoustic/electronic
marriage which doesnÆt end in a messy divorce. FriedlanderÆs
cello parts float beneath waves of white noise and degraded
electronic blips as if they had always been there and TeardoÆs
intense production never gets too much to latch on to.

In addition to æGiorni RubatiÆ the duo have also included two
special live tracks; one from the Knitting Factory in New
York and one recorded in Italy at a show celebrating 30
years of the death of Pasolini. A fitting end to a hugely
involving meeting of great musical minds.
