Recorded live at James Monroe High School in the Bronx, æDeath MixÆ has become
one of the most sort after records in the history of hip-hop. Released on the
Paul Winley label in the early eighties it has gained cult status amongst
deejays and record collectors alike. Even the artwork has been aped for DJ
ShadowÆs Q-Bert megamix on MoWax and countless mix CD's have cloned the
distinctive style. Death Mix is seen as one of the first ever mix sessions and
while some of the recording may seem primitive to todayÆs Pro Tools and Serato
users youÆll be hard pushed to find anything with as much energy and atmosphere.
Winley also released two volumes of the legendary Zulu Nation Throwdown which
also rank highly among collectors. Both volumes are included along with their
instrumentals here - a totally sick package.
