Vegas Martyrs is a new trio from New York that specializes in
flailing punk skree. At least thatÆs whatÆs going on with the
two tracks that comprise the ôChoking Dobermanö 7ö, and I must
say I dig what these lads do. Side AÆs ôMemantine/Strangerö is
a smoldering slab of skull-crushing distorted shredding that
sounds like a hardcore answer to later John Coltrane with
guitar in place of sax. The flip is more of the same:
over-distorted head damage, but played a bit slower û makes me
think of Whitehouse covering the Stooges, and yes that is
indeed praise. So letÆs just say Vegas Martyrs find a happy
medium between high octane guitar death and brain-tickling
shoegaze. Full length upcoming on, you guessed it, Troubleman.
