If you dont already know the names Marcie Phonix & Hypa Fenn, where have you been
blud!!! They are fast becoming the hottest duo in the grime scene, with 2006 set to
be their year.
Already featured on tracks such as Bobcat (Produced by Youngstar), Nasty Bonanza &
Stanza (Both off the Run the Roads compilation), Milkymans SKA Project (Featuring
Nyke, Nikki S, Bashy & Flirta D and others), State Your Name (Essentials) & most
recently the underground smash Hold It Down (a 1Xtra Tune of the Week) taken from the
forthcoming Dubplate Drama album. Theyre well on their way to the top of this s**t
and wont stop till theyre there.
Both hailing from West London, they first came together back in early 2002, with the
same determination and vision of reaching the top of the top in the garage/grime
scene. Following the examples set by groups such as Genius Cru, So Solid and The
Heartless Crew, they set about realising their ambitions. They realised they should
stick together to achieve this, as their unity and complimenting styles as a double
act shone through and set them apart from others. Their talents were soon spotted by
the owner of double-award winning pirate radio station Freeze FM. Soon afterwards
those same talents landed Marcie and Hypa a prime time show on Freeze, which soon
built a steady buzz and in the process created a big cult following.
During the next year they started to feature on various underground tunes, namely
Bobcat. The duo were now gaining recognition from the rest of the grime industry,
with every grime producer interested in working with them. To date, the duo have
worked with top producers such as Youngstar (Dizze Rascal, Stand Up Tall) Terror
Danjah (Kano, Terror Sqwad), Fireworkz (Shystie, L.Man, Kele Le Roc), and Dexplicit
(Lethal Bs hit smash Pow). The duo have also worked with artists such as L.Man,
Narstie, J2K, Wiley, Faith SFX, Shystie and Kele Le Roc to name just a few.
Their unique style and presence as artists is what's responsible for their meteoric
rise. With the duo riding high off the back of Hold It Down, the video shoot is in
the can and its imminent arrivial in early June on MTV Base & Channel U the skys the
limit! Marcie & Hypa can also boast acting on their CVs, with roles in last years hit
Channel 4 grime-based TV series Dubplate Drama. 2006 is definitely set to be a big
year for the pair, with a summer mixtape nearing completion, and other big projects
in the pipeline
So you must already know that 'Its Merkage', are you ready for 'The Dons'!!!!!
