Diana Winter was born in Florence in 1985, to Austrian mother and Italian
father, and was raised between Italy and Austria.
Since a child, she grew up listening to Louis Amstrong and classic music as
Chopin played by her mother, who is a skilled piano
player. When ten years old, she started studying classic guitar at a high level,
but she soon felt the need of writing songs to
perform as a solo artist. So she gave up the chance to attend the conservatory,
and wrote the first song when fourteen (-a disaster!-
as she says). At 15 she started recording her first demos, while studying modern
singing and performing in small clubs, until she
became part of a Gospel choir.
Three years ago she started recording her first album, making the most of the
international production arranged by the executive
producer Fabio Balestrieri (Larry Dunn, Tom Jones, Stephen Bay) and of the
co-operation in some tracks by Phil Gould (level 42),
for which she has been living between Italy and England. In this half-English
half-Italian production, various talented musicians
offered their contribution to Diana's debut album:
Toots Thielemans (Ella Fitzgerald, Quincy Jones, Bill
Evans & many, many more...), Miles Bould (Sting, Level 42, Morcheeba), Mike
Lindup (Level 42, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton),
Yolanda Miles (Robbie Williams, Incognito), Neil Black (Soft Machine, The Ear
Band).
The album was therefore recorded among Italy, Belgium
and England, where the mastering took place under the care of Martin Giles
(Depeche Mode, Cardigans, Moby) at Alchemy Soho in
London (see www.alchemysoho.com).
The music genres she loves, such as pop, soul and funk by Stevie Wonder, Chaka
Khan, Sarah Vaughan, Terence Trent D'Arby & many
others, mean that she naturally writes-sings in English, and result in her debut
album "Escapizm".
"-Escapizm-, according to me, and far from its
didactic reference, means an escape from reality through the huge power of music
in order to create a new dimension, a personal and
unassailable secret world of our own, secret... where nobody can... annoy us"
"I've tried to represent this little precious alchemy
which happens through music in my own way, I hope it will reach many people."
