English vocalist ANNIE WILLIAMS came quite late to singing and
songwriting, having spent the first several hectic years of her
adult life painting, travelling and being a mother. When at the
age of 23 she started to explore her vocal abilities, she
discovered singing and it discovered her. In no time it became a
necessary part of her life, providing therapy and escape, offering
a "lostness" only previously experienced in intense painting
moments as well as giving her the rare pleasure of real
encouragement - when you're as bright and "roomfilling" a
personality as Annie, you find yourself in a permanent state of
     holding back.

Singing allowed her new heights of self expression. With her
musician partner she formed the band Murmur, but before long she
went solo and began working with friend and producer Mark Van
Hoen, a.k.a. Locust. A four track demo was completed in August 199
4, the first live performance at Quirky in London received an
enthusiastic response and by October 1994 they had already passed
on one major deal to accept the one offered by esteemed Belgian
     Techno label R & S Records.

The Ruby EP, released in May of this year, was made up of those
first four tracks: a passionate and vibrant collection, it
captured a moment in time and space that formed a doorway into a
new and special feminine perspective. Annie's tunes and lyrics wer
e complemented perfectly by the electronic compositions of a
deeply perceptive Mark Van Hoen. On the subject of this
collaboration she says: "Combining nature with modern technology
is, in my opinion, the only way to bring songs to life and to make
them breathe. There is a lot of room at present for musicians to
bring some reality into songwriting, and I feel that the human
voice is far too valuable to be left at the wayside when music
technology is developing at such a fast pace."

With the Ruby EP and the new single Folie providing the foundation
to establish her as an original and versatile artist, Annie is all
set to write and record more. She's found a space, in music, for
the blend of intimacy and reckless confidence that previously
found it hard to be in the same room. "In my songs I use
characters and circumstances that trigger a strong Source of
emotion", she says. "I write about feelings that everyone has, but
in the same way people find my honesty abrasive, I am disturbed by
people's reluctance to expose their true selves."

Annie feels that coming to making music later, and as a mother,
only adds to what can be achieved. Her senses have been heightened
and insights gained: "The more I experience in life, the more
necessary this outlet becomes, as it produces a definite form from
a jumble of thought, making it easier to be objective about life
and helping me understand myself and those around me." Hold on to
Folie, again an unparented expression of something extremely
valuable, and watch out for Annie's debut album, scheduled to
     appear beginning of 1996.

Ripper's note: it was never released. Annie got allegedly pregnant
again, quietly disappearing from the music scene.
