And finally, I can review what I'm always praising: a
completely fully packed vinyl. That's what I want: full
pleasure for my money. Why only 6 minutes on a 12" if you
can have up to 22?
I bow low in front of Larsie who made a dream come true: 10
(!!!!) tracks on a 12". That even tops Dub Flash releases.
Respect.
On the A-Side, Larsie presents a heavy stepping,
electronical-industrial sounding stepper with three vocal
cuts by Miss Lynx (sounding a bit like Lua from the
Universal Egg stable), Al Pancho (rough toasting, not so
much my style) and Jah Pearl (my favourite vocal cut of them
three). In addition, Larsie added a dubwise and a harderwise
cut. That's typical for him. And you can expect that his
dubwise cuts are always pretty funky with some special
ingredient (a certain instrument for instance) that makes
this cut very unique. The harderwise cut then of course is
what the name indicates: heartcore music. Or - as some bad
chatty mouths on the island a bit West of Europe would say -
German techno music. But I am not such a person, so I only
say: hell yeah! A-Side: 5 stars.
The B-Side is the complete contrary of the A-Side: a
slowmotion one drop with harpischord skanks, giving it some
kind of barockian dub flavour. The riddim is really slow,
did I mention that already? I think so. The both vocal cuts
are a bit hard to enjoy in my opinion because the songs are
in a way disturbing due to this harpsichord flavour. I keep
on thinking of one Micky Mouse game on my old Master System
console. There was one ghost house level and that always
scared me when I was a child. The two vocal cuts bring me
that feeling again. Creepy. ;)
The dubwise cut is fortunately not that creepy. That's again
because of a specific new ingredient: an organ as lead
instrument and it's pretty jumpy and lively, especially the
introduction part. Gives me more positive feelings. The
harderwise cut again is pure spooky ghosthouse style. If you
like the scary Earthquake releases, you will like this one
as well. As a bonus track, the Bush Chemists provided a
remix of the riddim. Dougie added a smooth stepping beat
under the tune and therefore gives it a completely new
flavour. B-Side: 3 stars.
In total, the One Love EP is a very promising first release
on Phoenix Upliftment (although it's labeled as PUR002 and
not 001) with one heavy stepping and one spooky side.
Because it is completely packed with music (10 tracks!), I
recommend this release to each and everyone!
