It might not get as much love as big brother Running Back, but Gerd
Janson's Misfit Melodies rarely misfires. It has hit the mark once
more here, as Janson showcases a quintet of cuts from Aussie rising
star Sam Alfred. He describes Alfred's sound as 'speed house' - a
rave-igniting, pitched-up blend of classic house sounds, 'speed
garage' references and hands-in-the-air moments. That energetic
giddiness comes to the fore on piano-sporting opener 'My Heart (90s
Mix)', before the Australian opts for more percussive power and sweat-
soaked bass on 'Drift' and the synth strings-laden rush of 'Back To'.
He channels the spirit of early UK garage on 'Fortune', while title
track 'Roadblocks' is a celebratory, constantly-building slab of
warehouse-ready hedonism.
