The Troms° based Washington came together in the fall of 1999, however
under a different name. Although new to the music scene they quickly
established themselves as one of their hometowns finest pop
connoisseurs. The band played several gigs in their hometown and also
participated on a local compilation record. One of the highlights of
the early years was an inspired performance at the By:larm festival in
Tromso in February 2001.
However promising the trio had yet to make a proper recording but in
the fall of 2002 Washington went to Brygga Studio in Trondheim to
record what would be their debut release, a four track EP, entitled
Black Wine. In January 2003, just as the EP was ready mixed and
mastered, Washington were picked up by the Oslo based label Bauta
Records, a division of the highly acclaimed Tuba Records. By the time
Black Wine was released in May 2003, Washington had already started
the recording of their debut album. It was completed in the spring of
2004, with a Norwegian release in August 2004. The album entitled A
New Order Rising received great reviews in Norway and subsequently
gathered interest outside of Norway, resulting in a record-deal with
the established indie-label Glitterhouse Records. Since the release
Washington have been touring heavily all over Europe.
2007 will see the release of the follow-up to the critically acclaimed
debut album. The new album, entitled 'Astral Sky', will be released on
the 5th of March in Norway and the 9th of March in Europe.
