BBC 1XTRAÆs æMost Street HeatÆ award winning artist Wretch 32 has claimed his station
in the UK underground scene following the release of æLearn From My MixtapeÆ mid
2006. Virtually unknown outside his North London quarters at the beginning of 2006,
the release of æLearn From My MixtapeÆ raised the artist to the pinnacle of the
underground UK Music industry.
Using slick word play to embed satire into lyrics, Wretch 32Æs music has been
described by many as æedutainmentÆ itself. However, rather than becoming complacent
with the success of æLearn From My MixtapeÆ the artist used it as a platform
participating in numerous projects throughout 2006.
His impressive work rate failed to go unnoticed by Mike Skinner and The Streets who
collaborated with him in their æPranging OutÆ remix video. In October 2006, the
artist played a key role in MTV BaseÆs Black History month campaign. Marveling at
Black British media icons, the artist exhibited a high level of maturity by
illustrating their immense accomplishments.
This work has helped to establish an ever growing fan base not only within the UK but
also in Europe resulting in bookings in Amsterdam, Berlin, Gothenburg, Copenhagen and
Barcelona thus far. His lucid lyrics and likeable personality also enabled the artist
to present a daytime show alongside producer Davinche on G-MoneyÆs BBC 1XTRA show.
The support shown by BBC 1XTRA, Radio 1, Asian Network, Kiss and Choice Fm is an
indication of the position that Wretch 32 has stationed himself within the UK music
scene. DJÆs such as 279, Semtex, Cameo, Logan, Ace and Invisible, Twin B, Shortee
Blitz, One Samurai, Westwood, Mary Ann Hobbs and Ed Ski regularly provide the artist
with evening and daytime airplay.
Winning BBC 1XTRAÆs first Annual Mixtape award for æMost Street HeatÆ rounded off a
successful year the immensely talented artist from North London. This year the artist
plans to release three mixtapeÆs with the first mixtape instalment æTeacherÆs
Training DayÆ due in late Feb. A video and single release is also impending
independently.
If 2006 was his platform, then surely 2007 will be Wretch 32Æs runaway train journey
to success.
