       Best known for his work with Orthrelm, Quixotic, The
       Flying Luttenbachers and most recently, Ocrilim, Mick
       Barr indulges his wildest guitar fantasies on this shred
       odyssey. While not quite in the Yngwie Malmsteen/Jason
       Becker order of neo-classical guitarists, Barr isn't
       afraid to alternate-pick his way through some improbably
       rapid passages of harmonically sophisticated
       baroque'n'roll. The album is split between unaccompanied,
       guitar-only solo spots and more obviously
       metal-influenced pieces backed-up by some quick fire drum
       machine programming. Barr's playing is at its best when
       he's freed-up from any sort of backing track however,
       leaving him to run through jittery, modal passages with a
       deft, uncompromising picking hand. His specialty seems to
       be ascending and descending the neck with some of the
       most comically elaborate arpeggio runs and chromatic
       patterns you're likely to hear outside of... well, the
       1980s. It's actually rather wonderful to hear such a
       technically accomplished guitarist absolutely nailing his
       craft, and if any justification or excuse were necessary
       for indulging in what is effectively an old-school shred
       record, the drum machine-backed tracks contextualise
       Barr's music within a modern climate of metal
       revisionism.
