Hailing from the frozen north of Norway, Diskjokke aka Joachim
Dyrdahl makes his debut on Get Physical sublabel Kindisch. He comes
from one of the coldest parts of Europe, but his warm, quirky,
perkussive grooves will melt hearts. Diskjokke hooks up with Vinny
Villbass for the leading track æMeksiboboÆ. The toughest track of the
five, its squelchy acid line and jacking rhythm make nods to classic
Chicago house, but without sacrificing the groovy Scandinavian disco
feeling.ItÆs followed by æGraavaersdagÆ, which is driven by a
mournful electronic bass that soars and builds until itreaches an
epic climax. This emotional club track has the kind of sadness that
seeing a melting polar ice capevokes.æFolk I FartaÆ, a seductive
track teeming with mournful piano lines and icy synths, which are
held together with tight house claps. The end result is another
tripped out, trancey serving of the Norse universe. æOnce More With
ViolenceÆ makes great use of a live funk bass and the hypnotically
rolling arrangement progresses to reveal bleeps and hypnotic synth
lines. This is the sound of Norse disco taken to its farthest,
futuristic limits.The æRadiomaha editÆ of æStaying InÆ ends the
release in a quirky style. Its swinging groove and rolling bongos
play host to horn samples, poppy hooks and what could be the sound of
a horse racing past the studio. After all, with Dyrdahl at the disco
controls, anything is possible.
