Release Notes:
When, in 1998, Richard Warren's band The Hybirds split, he released the
ferocious 'Flashlegs' twelve inch under the name Echoboy, signed to Mute and
delivered the genre defying album "Volume 1" exactly one year after signing the
deal. Since then, Noel Gallagher chased after Rich to join Oasis and countless
others pursued Rich to join their bands or remix their records.
The difference is clear: one man, a myriad of ideas, and a sparkling new pop
vision for a new era. The richness of Echoboy's vision is Warren's lifetime
immersion in sound. As a teenager, he learned heady guitar licks from Hendrix,
went on the front the power trio The Hybirds and was courted by Oasis when they
found themselves suddenly guitar-less. The Sun, when they discovered he had
turned them down, awarded Richard the immortal accolade: "He's not mad for it -
he's just mad!"
Richard had already left the conventional music biz route, holed up with an
8-track and a Casio and set about creating new worlds from above his mum's hair
salon in Nottingham, England. Putting out his debut 'Flashlegs' single in 1998,
and through the ensuing years, he set tongues wagging throughout the press.
"Bruce Springsteen meets Kraftwerk" reckoned the NME. "Faust via Stereolab,"
added Time Out. More singles followed, including an unprecedented double 7"
'Pure New Wool' for the Rough Trade Singles Club.
Just as his music was evolving, so the Echoboy live band reflected this,
starting as a three piece outfit and developing into a two-drummer, seven man
extravaganza, successfully headlining tours of the UK and Europe as well as
supporting bands as diverse as Doves and Add N To (X) with members of
Spiritualized and Six By Seven joining in the Echoboy live band. In 2007,
Echoboy returns with the leftfield electronic masterpiece Elektrik Soul
Psymphonie, a collection of more leftfield electronic-based instrumental tracks.
Echoboy has provided remixes for a diverse range of artists including Doves,
Luke Slater and Starsailor and produced the 'I want to be the President' EP for
Electrelane.
Richard Warren has also toured with Spiritualized (on bass) and both played on
and co-engineered their forthcoming album and plays guitar with British
stalwarts Starsailor.
