Montreal bassist Alex Bellegarde, grew up in
Quebec's Eastern Townships, where his love for
music developed at an early age. A growing interest
for jazz and masters such as Ray Charles, Charley
Mingus, Scott Lefaro and Dave Holland drew him to
the acoustic doublebass and soon, he joined a local
jazz trio. Accompanying singers such as Catherine
Granger, Maude Grenier, April and Edward Ellington,
he also plays with the Sonia Johnson Trio, the
Swing Our Souls Octet, and of course his own
quartet. Exploring jazz styles such as swing, pop,
latin, funk and free jazz, through a constant
interest for composition, improvisation and love
for his instrument, Alexandre Bellegarde continues
to develop his energetic style of playing, as well
as working to preserve the bond with his audience.
