█░█ 2006 was a big year for this unconventional █░█
█░█ 8-piece Saskatoon band. The month of June saw █░█
█░█ them release their self-titled debut album. July █░█
█░█ brought a whirlwind tour of Western Canada. In █░█
█░█ December, the band won one of CBC Radio 3Æs █░█
█░█ inaugural Bucky Awards in the category of best █░█
█░█ new band name. █░█
█░█ █░█
█░█ Fortunately, they have more going for them than █░█
█░█ just a clever name. The group brings together █░█
█░█ electronics, harp, viola, a brass section, █░█
█░█ multiple vocalists and a miscellany of other █░█
█░█ instruments all piled on top of a standard rock █░█
█░█ rhythm section. As a result, Carbon Dating █░█
█░█ Service songs take a variety of shapes and sizes, █░█
█░█ ranging from quiet country gems to raging █░█
█░█ psych-rock experiments to triumphant pop █░█
█░█ symphonies. █░█

█░█ The band started as the duo of Teargas Recording █░█
█░█ Tree co-founders Jim Ginther and Steve Reed, █░█
█░█ originally known as Awkward Silence. The group █░█
█░█ slowly expanded, growing out from its minimalist █░█
█░█ roots to its present state as an 8 member pop █░█
█░█ orchestra. A couple of people have had to check █░█
█░█ in and out, but the current line up consists of: █░█
█░█ Toby Bond, Brian Cochrane, Jim Ginther, Alex █░█
█░█ Loewen, Mairin Loewen, Zach Low, Steve Reed and █░█
█░█ Alison Whelan. █░█

█░█ With their first album, tour, and award behind █░█
█░█ them, Carbon Dating Service are now hard at work █░█
█░█ on a new recording project, due for release in █░█
█░█ the summer of 2007. This summer will also see the █░█
█░█ band hit the road again, touring with Maybe Smith █░█
█░█ from Saskatoon to Eastern Canada. In the past, █░█
█░█ the band has shared the stage with such Canadian █░█
█░█ heavyweights as: Hylozoists, Immaculate Machine, █░█
