Biography:
Get ready for Jamie McHugh!!! warns Tom Stephan on his Kiss 100 show as he
introduces "a blinding new DJ talent. " I got into house around about the time
the whole scene kicked off in 1989" remembers Jamie. In 1991 Jamie joined the
Army and moved to Osnabruck in Germany and was lucky enough to witness the
explosion of dance music on the continent. In 1992 he got a few mates together
and took over a dead beat local disco called Hollywoods. Within 4 weeks the club
was full, people were traveling from all over Germany to visit, and it was at
this point he knew he was destined to be a DJ. He spent the next year learning
the basics, cutting his teeth in front of a live audience. The night ran for
about a year until it was closed down by the local authorities. By now the scene
in Germany had grown, new nights were opening everywhere and he would spin
whenever and where ever he got the chance. A year later after and after a move
to Dsseldorf he blagged a gig at a new night at the Poison Club in Dsseldorf
which led to gigs at the Tribehouse in Neuss, these were two of the biggest and
best clubs in Germany. Spinning house and techno, Jamie managed to gain respect
both at these nights and also at one off events across Germany. In 1994, after a
visit to renaissance in the UK, Jamie got into the progressive sound, spent all
his money on new tunes and transferred this new sound to his sets and when he
returned to Germany. The move saw his bookings increase ten fold. Whilst in
Germany he built up quite a reputation and played alongside DJ's such as Carl
Cox, Westbam, Paul Van Dyk, Timo Mass, and Da Hool.
Fast forward to today, Jamie has left the Army and returned to the UK, living
near London, he has played at loads of local parties as well as some of the best
clubs in the UK. He has recently played alongside everyone from Rui Da Silva and
Nick Warren and Seamus Haji. His recent radio show mixes have seen him feature
alongside Nic Fanciulli, Paolo Mojo, Justin Martin , Greg Vickers and Demi to
name a few. He has also just joined American Internet Radio station Proton for a
monthly show. "Don't ask to define my style quips Jamie; I play everything from
deep house to electro, tech house to twisted breaks and everything in between. I
like to start off nice and slow and build a mood teasing effects and acapella's
into the groove before picking up the pace. My Favourite Djs include John
Digweed, Tom Stephan, Danny Tenaglia, Paolo Mojo, Nic Fanciulli, Lottie, James
Zabiela, Jon Carter, Bushwacka, Meat Katie and Lee Coombs" beams Jamie. Plans
are being laid to launch his "Therapy" Club Night, the night is set to launch on
24th Mar and will be held in one of the few London venues to hold a 24hr
licence. Tom Stephan has been quick to pick up on Jamie's talent and recently
featured him as a guest on his Kiss100 show and with recent guest mixes for
Mercury Sessions, Proton & Ministry Of Sound Radio and gigs at Turnmills, The
End & the Cross in London under his belt, the future looks bright. Jamie says "I
try to use every bit of technology available when playing out, scratching, efx,
acapellas and live loops fill my sets". He's not been shy on the production
front either, his latest track "Dropout" has been snapped up by James Harcourt's
Twisted Frequency Label and is set to land in summer 2006. The follow up
"Arcadia" has been signed to Brique Rouge and is currently receiving heavy
rotation from the likes of James Zabiela, King Unique, Paul Woolford & Nic
Fanciulil. He has also found the time to remix the seminal progressive classic
"Pure" by Hawaii which has featured on two Renaissance Masters compilations for
both Hernan Cattaneo & Dave Seaman is now being championed by a host of
"Premier" DJs including the aforementioned Seaman and Cattaneo but also James
Zabiela, Chris Salt and Nick Warren. With remix projects for Arabica and Adjust
recordings on the way and two more brand new tracks ready to be unleashed in the
coming weeks; Jamie has pushed himself to the front of the "up and coming"
queue. Tom Stephan was right. We're ready, are you?
