reissue of two albums in one with new "irma style" artwork: "samba
nova concepcao" coupled with "impulso" by os catedraticos and
deodato on "samba nova concepcao" deodato plays mostly acoustic
piano and he's backed by a tight jazz group that plays sharp samba
grooves behind him. arrangements are by daudeth de azevedo (neco)
this time, and deodato is just the main soloist -- but the whole
set is very lively, with a good brace of reed and brass playing,
which adds a strong jazzy dimension to the recording. lots of nice
tracks, like "nana", "straits of mcclellan", "amor de nada",
"adriana", and "samba no congo" -- but every track is a winner!
"impulso" got the maestro picking up the hammond organ, and
playing with a samba/bossa group. dom um romao and wilson das
neves are on drums, and the record has got a firey sound to it
that is a perfect complement to the great bossa keyboard lines by
deodato. tracks include "so por amor", "baiaozinho", "cheers!",
"samba nova", "pouca duracao", and more! all great, and a very
groovy sound throughout!
