malente is a small, quiet town in northern germany. some might
know it as the home of the german national team's training
facility back when franz beckenbauer or karl-heinz rummenigge
where active players. some say that they won the worldcup only
because of "the spirit of malente". since christoph g÷ttsch grew
up there this spiritÆs in his blood.
after being dj for a while he felt what many other djs have felt
at least once: "the best tunes you can buy are all fine and good
but there has to be more, doesn't there?". so he began producing
the tracks that can really kick a party himself. and because
everyone seems to agree that the spirit of malente had something
to do with all this, he decided to call himself malente.
after his first album "the spirit of malente" has been released he
toured in russia, belgium, switzerland, greece and spain, but also
rocked germanyÆs clubs from lounge, mojo, pudels (hamburg), atomic
cafe, cafe muffalhalle (munich), wmf, cookies, roter salon, pogo
(berlin), studio 672 und stadtgarten (cologne), only to mention
the best known. but he has also been guest in all the other nice
clubs from kiel to hannover, weimar, leipzig, g÷ttingen, bochum,
dortmund, bielefeld, duisburg, nⁿrnberg, stuttgart and at home at
the unique club in dⁿsseldorf.
and now the second album ôno risk no funkö is coming: the first
12" from that called "don't stop" is already in the shops and to
be followed by a 7"/mcd named "funk the rich". the dlp/cd "no risk
no funk" is due to be released in autumn and features
collaborations with the strike boys as well as with the upcoming
artists k-ross, weedy gonzales, richard kim. itÆs a stomping
nufunk thing, redefining that good old funk in various styles
(just put some tracks on the turnies above).
when dj'ing malente likes to takes things to the extremes of the
musical spectre ; no purist bullshit but a lot of funk-fuelled
grooves. with a bright smile on his face he'll throw you a set
that might contain elements of breakbeats, house, electro, funk,
reggae and nujazz. or maybe not, who will tell? you might ask
winston hayzel (moloko dj), mint royale, le hammond inferno or
labelmate frank popp, whom he toured with in the past. or just
believe us when we say: malente definitely knows how to rock a
