'Where Are You Now' starts with a sort of Gregorian chant,
before launching in to the sort of music that brings a
shiver to the spine of those between the ages of 15 and 40
- ska. Admittedly, it's a bit daft to call it ska when
there's nary a hint of brass within its 190 seconds, but
all the 'ooh ooh's and repetitive, foot-tapping drums
remind of nothing so much as the likes of Reel Big Fish
and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Fortunately this isn't as
rubbish as the comparisons might suggest - it barrels
along at quite a pace, vocalist Gerry supporting well with
his throaty, American-style vocals.
Of course you're likely to question the wisdom of a
Hampshire band sounding so transatlantic, but if you
forced SixNationState to sound both English and bother to
include the brass section, you'd get The Zutons. Of which
one is quite enough.
