         █░█    An expanded bandù adding Wurlitzer, pedal steel,   █░█
         █░█    piano, and sometimes even bassù plays 13           █░█
         █░█    original, folky-indie-pop delights.                █░█

         █░█    Perhaps the easiest comparison one could make      █░█
         █░█    would be to say that Elephant Island is like       █░█
         █░█    Vancouver IslandÆs answer to Flophouse Jr. The     █░█
         █░█    songs are texturally rich while adhering to a      █░█
         █░█    mellow and paced sound. The lap steel, slight      █░█
         █░█    snare tapping and hushed piano exhibit great       █░█
         █░█    musical restraint that is consistent throughout    █░█
         █░█    the thirteen tracks.                               █░█
         █░█                                                       █░█
         █░█    The quality of music is matched equally with the   █░█
         █░█    song writing, which is engaging and unexpectedly   █░█
         █░█    refined, unfortunately the bridge between the      █░█
         █░█    instrumentation and song writing is the vocals.    █░█
         █░█    While itÆs easy to become immersed in such an      █░█
         █░█    album, the vocals are delivered in the most part   █░█
         █░█    in boy/girl duet form which starts out             █░█
         █░█    interestingly enough, but the lack of range makes  █░█
         █░█    the chemistry easily become repetitively abrasive  █░█
         █░█    - almost stripping away at the numerous merits of  █░█
         █░█    the album as a whole.                              █░█
         █░█                                                       █░█
         █░█    Overall the recordÆs homegrown sound and subdued   █░█
         █░█    atmosphere is an interesting listen and while it   █░█
         █░█    does have its faults it retains something that     █░█
         █░█    few albums I usually come across have: Heart.      █░█
