█░ ░█
█░ "Curious one this. I mean, WE KNOW that the stroppy ░█
█░ Mancunian maverick has at least two very definite sides to ░█
█░ his musical output: There's the frenetic drum meets hyper ░█
█░ live bass shenanigans and the arty, tense, abstract Planet ░█
█░ of the Apes style soundscapes... but this is somewhere else. ░█
█░ Ironic, then, that it kicks into gear with title track 'Do ░█
█░ You Know Squarepusher', where subtle atmospheric dribbles of ░█
█░ ambient Aphexisms fuse with punchy rhythmic precision that ░█
█░ allows the listener space to see the contours. However... ░█
█░ before we have the chance to get too complacent, the bugger ░█
█░ hits us with a claustrophobic voice-scape that's more than a ░█
█░ little bit Mixing It. Then later we're back to more beatwise ░█
█░ territory with the incendiary adrenaline rush of ░█
█░ 'Anstrommm-Feck 4' where Tom lays down beats so frenetic and ░█
█░ warped they sound like an itchy wiggly micro creature ░█
█░ trapped inside a demented Pac Man machine. Then he flips ░█
█░ again and serves up avant ramblings until - get this! - he ░█
█░ takes on Joy Division classic 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'. It ░█
█░ retains the flavour of the original but turns it into a ░█
█░ simple, gentle yet motoring reverberation. CD2 meanwhile - ░█
█░ 'Alive in Japan' - is a hectic eclectic mashed ░█
█░ bleuuuuuuuurgh. But it's arguably far more interesting and ░█
█░ focused and energized than the studio effort. Do we know ░█
█░ Squarepusher? Gal DΘtourn" -PlayLouder.com blip ░█
█░ ░█
█░ Good Laud! This is a beautiful album! And if you thought ░█
█░ that just over half an hour of new music wasn't enough, the ░█
█░ mixset from Japan (recorded July 2001) makes it all better. ░█
█░ Oh, so much better. This second CD is an interesting little ░█
█░ journey with Tom Jenkinson, who doesn't really say much during ░█
█░ his time twiddling knobs, and the crowd is pretty well behaved, ░█
█░ for the most part, or they're not recorded. The audio is a tad ░█
█░ quiet compaired to the first CD, but that's how it was mastered. ░█
█░ Most of this show is from his last album Go Plastic, with three ░█
█░ songs from this new album, and one unaccounted for (it starts ░█
█░ warbly, gets hard, and then it sounds like the crowd gets into ░█
█░ it, or he sampled them getting crazy - it's a bit odd. ░█
█░ ░█
█░ Rip notes: Ripped from the retail CD (pics as proof), encoded ░█
█░ in true stereo (per usual), and the 2nd CD is continuous, ░█
█░ seeing as it is a live set. KSi ROCKS for the Advance of this ░█
█░ fine album out so early, and for getting most of the tracks ░█
█░ named on the 2nd CD. But this is the retail, as noted in the ░█
█░ release name, and its for those picky bastards, or those who ░█
█░ are sad and missed the KSi rip back then. Enjoy! ░█
