Overred blends the sounds of busy acoustic guitars with light and complimenting
percussion all played overtop an ambience of whispers and static. Kyle Frenette
acts as the primary songwriter, writing in a traditional folk style that sounds
both aged and refreshing. Originally from Chippewa Falls, WI, the duo currently
resides in Minneapolis, MN; both have been playing together since high school
and have a strong chemistry thatÆs well portrayed in their music. Frenette
writes on a personal level - heavily influenced by his surroundings; his
memory-drenched lyrics typically tell tales of growing up in the rural Midwest
and fret through the intricacies of his personal relationships.
Theater encases layers of static and noise derived from recording with a simple,
yet slightly broken, four-track tape recorder in bedrooms, basements, and
auditoriums. Containing only six songs, the EP delivers a strong, solidified
effort in the art of lo-fi recording. The songs were written and recorded by
Frenette over the course of the last nine months. Despite the extended gaps
between recording sessions, Theater remains cohesive and is a good
representation of an artist finally discovering his true sound and voice.
