The acoustic atmospheres of Thisstoryhasalastname feature James Demeray
(vocals/guitar), Kristin Montgomery (vocals/keyboard), and Riley Agopsowicz
(guitar). Demeray, former lead singer and guitarist for the successful
melodic pop punk band Weak At Best, started writing acoustic songs to help
him cope after a year of personal struggles and hardships. The inclusion of
longtime friends Montgomery and Agopsowicz led to the formation of This story
and added a rich, soulful dimension to Demerays songs. Agopsowicz, who also
wrote lyrics and played guitar for Weak At Best as well as the hardcore act
Indignance, brings fresh lyrical and musical content to the band. Riley and
James innovative and textural guitars, combined with Kristins rhythmic
keyboard provide a solid musical base. Kristin, with her vocal training and
musical experience, accompanies James voice to perfection, as they add poetic
lyrics and bittersweet vocal melodies to create a unique and unified sound.
Still in its infancy, Thisstoryhasalastname has enjoyed an overwhelming
response and a rapidly expanding fan base as they play an increasing number
of shows in and around their native Regina. Honest lyrics about loneliness,
love, death and determination add to the trios rich, heartfelt sound that
moves the audience like a five-piece rock act. The group forges a strong
connection to their community through their music with imagery that links
them to local surroundings. A song for a city that hates me is set locally,
with lines like with Wascana Lake not deep enough to hide the secrets we hold
onto to bring the audience home. What began as a couple of local gigs,
however, has evolved. With every passing show, the group continues to further
define themselves, both as individual artists and as a band. As they continue
to develop, This story looks for opportunities to give back to those who have
shown them unconditional support along the way. With upcoming plans to
release an album and hit the road, the group will have a chance to express
their gratitude to fans, family and friends, and to share their story.
