This piece is a newly pressed double-cd on a new label
(orange mountain music), which "is a record company
created to serve the fans [...] studying the music of
Philip Glass". Both CDs were previously released on
Stradivarius Records:
CD1 - "Music in the Shape of a Square":
- released 2001 on Stradivarius (STR 33602)
- scene-released by diss in 2003
CD2 - "600 Lines (/ How Now)":
- released 2003 on Stradivarius (STR 33649)
- no scene-release available
for Nukers:
a) concerning dupe/bonus.only:
we thought about that option (to release only cd2) - but
rules state clearly: "If it's more than 3 months later
then you are allowed to do either the bonustrack-only or
the full album.". So we did it this way to have a
complete set rather then only half of it.
b) concerning the year:
its tagged as 2007 since the cd was released on OMM in
2007
(http://www.philipglass.com/music/recordings/alter_ego_pe
rforms.php and
http://www.orangemountainmusic.com/alterego.html). so its
clearly neither 2001 nor 2003. Plus we arent able to tell
if there are differences between the CDs mastered on STR
and this one released on OMM.
And now for the music:
During the 1960's and '70's Philip Glass established
himself as a leading artistic voice by creating a new
musical language in the downtown loft spaces of New
York's Soho district.
Forty years later, Glass's early revolutionary music
continues to appeal to younger generations as evidenced
by Orange Mountain Music's release, Alter Ego performs
Philip Glass. 2006 marks the Italian new music ensemble's
15th anniversary as an ensemble. Across Europe they are
widely recognized as pioneers of new and experimental
music.
On this 2-disc set, the group performs seminal Glass
works including 4 world-premiere recordings. Featured
pieces include: How Now, 600 Lines, Piece in the Shape of
a Square, Gradus, Music in Similar Motion, Strung Out and
Music in Contrary Motion with a total length of over 135
minutes music.
