paul randolph has worked with the best of them in his home city of
detroit (kenny dixon jr, amp fiddler, carl craig, recloose etc.)
but this still music 12" sees him strike out on his own. as an
accomplished singer and bassist, he and his band give "believer"
the same live touch that they achieved on amp fiddler's debut
album, making a mighty soul song to boot. and then there's the
remixes. jazzanova mixes tend to come with a seal of quality that
few can match, so the sonically brooding intro opens out it sounds
decidedly unlike jnova. there's no need to worry, though, because
somehow the sluggish hi-hats that instantly recall theo parrish
and an alien ur techno sound combine to make one of the most
unexpectedly uplifting tracks that you're ever likely to hear.
