Formed in Minneapolis in 2005, White Light Riot released its debut EP, ôThe Dark
is Light Enoughö, a collective effort between the band and producer Erik
Appelwick (Tapes æN Tapes/Vicious Vicious/The Hopefuls). Generating local buzz
with critics it had a successful debut selling over 2000 copies locally
attracting record company interest. White Light Riot signed with 50 Records in
late fall 2006.
White Light Riot is brothers Mike (vocalist/guitarist) and Mark Schwandt
(drummer), Joe Christenson (lead guitarist) and Dan Larsen (bassist). While the
four share similar cultural backgrounds, they have the confidence to be
individuals, and complement each other in myriad ways. Together, they
collaborate to make a unique sound routinely compared to The Killers and Franz
Ferdinand. Separately, they acknowledge inspiration from bands as diverse as The
Beatles to The Clash, Radiohead to Nine Inch Nails.
